Information on Immigration, Investment, Education and Residence
Recently, the U.S. State Department's immigration policy has changed dramatically, which has prevented many high-tech immigrants from becoming permanent residents in ChinA.They were supposed to be able to apply for the status on October 1. Many of them have accepted high attorney fees and medical costs and are now suffering from policy changes.
The most affected immigrants are from China and India, many of whom have advanced degrees and work for top technology companies or pharmaceutical companies.
But on September 25, the government revised the announcement without explanation, severely reducing the number of eligible applicants.
The State Council has not released any information on when these people will be allowed to apply again.
Shashi Singh Raj, 32, from Guerney, Illinois, said her husband, an engineer at a pharmaceutical company, had to delay his MBA graduation and fail to get a promotion in the past five years while waiting for a green card because his visa was limited to specific jobs.
She said that when the State Council issued its first announcement, they excitedly telephoned their parents in IndiA.The couple also spent 600 dollars to get their birth certificate.
But her disappointment is not just about money.
"All our dreams have to make way for it.
We've been waiting patiently.
" She said, "We seem to be tied to a rope, and now it's broken.
" Swaroop Venumbaka, 33, is a software engineer in Cape Tyson, VirginiA.He said he took three days off to prepare the application and spent $2,600 on lawyer fees and medical expenses.
He said he hadn't returned to his Indian home in three years because traveling without a green card would be troublesome.
When the initial announcement came out, he first thought of his six-month-old son.
"I'm glad I want to bring my son to my parents.
" But now, he's considering letting his wife take his son back to India alone.
